Objective
To be a happy, impassioned person. To know myself,
and make a life for myself doing something that I love, while surrounded by
those who support me. To be
productive, but also to be able to relax and enjoy myself. To make wise choices.
I work well with others. I make a real effort to be
positive and supportive. The last several years of my life were devoted to
confronting my fears, anger and finally sadness, then putting myself back
together, getting healthy, quitting bad habits, learning to respect myself, and
improve my quality of life. Despite a history that reflects a real lack of
commitment, I have had the same amazing best friends for 20 years, and
throughout my entire life I have always painted or otherwise expressed myself
visually. All the experience behind me has made me the person I am today, and
IÕm taking my life in the right direction.

everything else imaginable, for 13 tables, all while smiling. Longest and best

10/04-5/05 Receptionist, MIT

4/02-5/02 Baristress,
Tealuxe, Cambridge, MA
I had this job for only a couple
of weeks, but I hadnÕt worked the whole previous year, so it was pretty
significant. Responsibilities included selling tea, stocking tea, cashiering,
smoke breaks.
1/02-3/02Cocktail Waitress, Silhouette Lounge, Allston, MA
Worked as a back-up waitress for a
friend of mine. Responsibilities
included: cocktail waitressing for a crowd of regular drinkers. I specialized
in hustling, costumes, and appealing to a diverse clientele.
11/00-7/01 Waitress, MikeÕs City
Diner, Boston, MA
Full-time employee for almost 1
year. Responsibilities included:
waiting, running, multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, eating lots of
eggs and bacon.
9/00-11/00 Scouting Director,
Barbizon School of Modeling, Boston, MA
Three months of absolute torture.
Responsibilities included: cold calling, soliciting, and empty-promise making.
I did get along well with my co-workers, and it was an interesting experience.
5/99-5/00 Studio
Intern, Western Textile, NYC, NY
Worked part-time while attending
school, and full-time after leaving. Responsibilities ranged from color
matching, to hand painting pattern templates, fabric research, and storyboards,
and getting lunch for everyone.
6/98-8/98 Caretaker,
Grandparents, Bedford, MA
Summer Situation. Responsibilities
included: Cooking, grocery shopping, driving, being 23 and living with grumpy
post-surgery grandparents.
9/97-5/99 Nude Model, Pratt Institute,
Brooklyn, NY
Worked part-time, for 2 years,
while attending school. Modeled
for life drawing, and anatomy classes. Responsibilities are self-explanatory.
11/96-9/97 Assistant Manager, Oilily, Chestnut Hill, MA
Full-time
employee for 10 months, a long time for me. Started in sales and graduated to
assistant manager. Responsibilities included: Commission based sales at a
high-end childrenÕs clothing company, displays, scheduling, customer service,
babysitting. I got along well with the staff, especially my boss, who was very
supportive of me, and encouraged me to return to school.
9/96-10/96 Exotic Dancer, The
Glass Slipper, Boston, MA
Had
this job for 3 weeks. One of the most surreal months of my lifetime. My
ÒresponsibilitiesÓ or quite possibly, ÒirresponsibilitiesÓ, included; flirting
with patrons, teasing, and convincing them to buy drinks for me, dancing on
stage in 20 minute sets, solo, about 7 times over the course of an 8 hour
shift, from 11am! to 7pm. All that while smoking 2 packs of cigarettes (at
work), walking (and dancing) in extremely ridiculous high heels, drinking
champagne, fending off perverts, and being scared out of my mind.
9/96-9/96 Hostess,
Sonsie, Boston, MA
Had
this job for about a month. Really
a bad match for me. I was the hostess, which involved dealing with a lot of
very difficult, snooty people for very little money. Oh, and having to dress up. I hated this job.
5/96-9/96 Nanny,
Newton, MA
Took care of my infant godson for
4 months. Responsibilities
included: being responsible for a tiny personÕs life, feeding, changing
diapers, burping, singing lullabies. This job made quite an impression. I had a
long way to go.
5/95-5/96 Sales
Associate, Allston Beat, Boston, MA
Worked here twice for 6 month
stints. Responsibilities included: executing competitive commission based sales
techniques, feel cooler, dying my hair pink, and wearing latex pants. I was the
#1 Salesperson for most of my tenure.
9/94-5/95 Waitress,
CafŽ Paragon, Providence, RI
I had this job for about 7 months,
after taking a Òleave of absenceÓ from Brown. Responsibilities included,
waiting, bussing, bartending, cappuchining, getting fired and subsequently
rehired 12 times by certifiably insane boss, getting sent home for not wearing
mini-skirt, being burned by cigarettes of drunk European patronage dancing on
tables. In short, lots of money, long shifts, learning about money and
sacrifice and sexual harassment.
9/94-5/95 Apprentice,
Richard Fishman, Providence, RI
Worked
alongside Richard Fishman, Head of Brown UniversityÕs Art Department, and
former president of Ralph LaurenÕs jewelry line. Responsibilities included,
mechanical drawings, presentations, chain work, polishing metal and resins,
learning about the process, from design, to critique, to fabrication, and mass
production. This job taught me a lot about right-brain vs. left-brain. I
realized that I did NOT want an art-related job that didnÕt involve creative
control.
92-94 Stockperson,
Crate & Barrel, Chestnut Hill, MA
Worked
on an almost all-lesbian team, unloading the trucks at 7am, unpacking, storing,
restocking, packaging and mailing. This was a job I had during X-mas and summer
vacations. Learned the value
of a dollar making minimum wage.
91-95 Camp
Counselor, Creative Arts at Park, Park School, Chestnut Hill, MA
Worked 4 summers from age 16-20.
Responsibilities included, assistant teaching and teaching of painting, mixed
media, clay work, improvisational drama, and costume design.
Spending time with
friends and cats, thinking, listening to music, sketching, watching movies
(mostly documentaries), reading (mostly memoirs), cooking dinner, and eating it
in bed.
